Resetting Unhealthy Engrams

Ever felt like the jaw has a mind of its own? Let’s talk about reprogramming it.

Deprogramming devices are anterior bite planes designed to interrupt the default settings of the orofacial musculature—what we call “muscle engrams.” By disengaging posterior tooth contact and providing a precise anterior stop, we can reset how the mandible closes.

Manual mandibular manipulation can work—but it requires a calm patient, an experienced operator, and relaxed muscles. When splinting and muscle tension are high, it’s not always reliable.

Instead, anterior deprogrammers offer a reproducible and patient-driven way to relax the jaw, allowing condyles to seat in centric relation and uncover true interocclusal relationships.
